Mindful Morning Routine
Mindful Morning
These last few months have obviously been different for all of us. I used to have my morning schedule down pat and was always thriving throughout the day. But now, I’ve had to make some adjustments just like you. And I want to help you get back on track with me. I’m not saying you have to do the same things I do, but I would love to walk you through my schedule as I do them. These few pieces everyday have helped me stay grounded and productive during these work-from-home days.
Cleanse.
First things first, I follow a pretty stringent face routine and I must wash my face at night and in the AM. This is after I use my bedtime setting on my iPhone and the birds fade in chirping at me through my alarm… If you don’t use the bedtime setting on your iPhone, you’re missing out.
I usually wake up around 6 every morning. If you live with someone I would recommend waking up before them just to give yourself some peace and quiet to yourself. When it’s finally cooled off here I’ll enjoy morning coffee or tea out on our balcony to start my day!
Scripture.
I’ve recently been trying to step back into the word of God. I use the “Bible” app for daily devotionals and set a morning reminder to make time for myself and the Lord. I love how this app gives a story daily and makes the word more understanding for me. During this time, I pray to God and give my time and attention towards him and only him. If we don’t give, how can we receive?
Move.
Okay now this section for me is a tough one given current circumstances.
Before Covid I was working out every morning by doing HIIT sprints at the gym and of course lifting heavy. Yes ladies, lifting heavy isn’t as bad as they say. It’s actually better for building muscle and burning fat. But since our state has decided to CLOSE GYMS in their entirety (AZ) yeah (legalize lifting) this has been so hard. Our weather is not really welcoming right now as it’s 115 on the daily. But waking up at 6 gives me the time to get out there before it gets too smoldering. As of lately, I’ve been running stairs, doing jump squats, and using the ropes we have outside for some shoulder burnouts. Granted, it’s not A LOT. But it’s helping me feel accomplished and get moving.
If you’re totally limited on gym space, I would recommend doing an online yoga class or even jump roping outside. Get yourself moving and get a sweat on! I promise you’ll start your day on a better note!
Meditate.
PHEW! This is a fun and tough one… I am NOT good at sitting still. But meditation has been helping me control my body, mind and thoughts which then gives me a more clear view of my daily/weekly schedule. Meditation grounds me and I think it could really benefit all of us, I definitely wish I would have started it sooner in my life. Meditation allows us to focus on being in the moment and feeling only the thoughts that are with us in those moments. Being mindful during these minutes sets me up for a day of productivity and awareness of my own thoughts.
Be patient when meditating, this is my best advice. Start slow. The first time I meditated I used a 10 minute guide and only sat through maybe 7 mins of it. It does take time and patience but it will come to you. Just start slow. I’ve always used an app called “Insight Timer” to help guide me through my meditations. I also fall asleep to this app at night. It’s AMAZING!
I would also recommend having a safe place for your meditation. For instance, I like to burn candles and sage, as well as lay my stones out before I start. (Stones and Chakras are conversation for another time. But if you don’t know, you should). I sit in the same space every time I meditate. And eventually I would love to move to my porch once the weather allows. I’ve noticed change in my mindfulness throughout the day since I’ve started meditation and I’ve found more peace in uncertainty that used to drive me crazy.
Well, there you have it! I just let many of you in on my best kept secrets… Now I expect you to try to implement them the best you can to get the most productive day possible!
Bless up, friends xoxo
