Where I Sell Pre-Owned Clothing
In 2017 I was just finishing up my Junior year of college. I volunteered majority of my time and life to school and my internship at the time. Making my own money was always up to me though. I would constantly look around my apartment and find things I no longer used and would list them on (at the time) Poshmark. Sign-up HERE and use my code “RADICALTHRIFTS” for a free $10! Poshmark was just a place to sell my second hand clothing to others, some of which I had never even worn. I think the best part of this was majority of those items my mom had bought for me from high school. Which means I kept all the profit and my expenses were nothing. After a year or so my Poshmark closet had gained some traction and now has over 32k followers, over 500 sales and 500 listings. This was really the starting point of what I call my “vintage thrift shop" - Radicalthrifts.
Three years later I’ve now found comfort in selling on Depop, Ebay, Grailed, Marketplace, and even launched my own Website Radicalthrifts.com/shop . Depop has been nothing but consistent for me. It takes awhile to get into their algorithm and for you to stay there… But once they feature you, it’s only up from there! I’ve found that modeling my clothing, having a consistent backdrop and lighting, and consistent descriptions works best for me. Some cute plants and outdoor lighting is also a move too! I have a ring light and tripod that I use for photos and I’ve just started using this CLICKER and it’s been such a big relief. Having a clicker gives me that extra free hand, saves time, and it’s bluetooth enabled! It’s truly a game changer and I can’t believe I didn’t purchase one sooner.
Here is my current Depop status. That’s 106 FIVE STAR Reviews with 200 sold. And we’re just getting started fam! THANKS TO YOU!!!!
Ebay is a whole different beast and I’m still navigating my way on there. I’ve found that using pre-made templates through the seller hub works like a champ. But like I said, I’m still working on mastering eBay, it alltakes time. Grailed is okay but listing items on there isn’t the most user friendly. Once I post on depop I use that description for roughly all of my platforms and just add to it.
In addition to these sources, I will definitely say that having friends that promote you and your business are also crucial! And if they don’t support your business by reposting, sharing, liking, commenting, etc. They’re not your friends! Organic promotions by friends can be a great way to reach new customers and be credible at the same time. And respectfully, pay full price if you can afford to spend that same price in a retail store such as fashion nova, f21 etc. Small businesses work HARD and pay themselves accordingly to bring you the best and only the best clothing and experience. Many of these fast fashion stores DO NOT and the quality of clothing is way less. Not to mention many of the workers are exploited, not paid, and/or underpaid. Spend your money on someone that’s making a difference and will continue to build a community with you!
I appreciate you all, my people! xoxo.
